Fishing Charter Tours in Hawaii
Sports fishing off of the Kona's Gold Coast!
About Kona Fishing
Kona is located on the leeward side of the Big
Island of Hawaii. The western shores of the Big Island offer world
class charter sports fishing combined with calm sea conditions. This
is because the Big Island's tall volcanoes protect Kona from the
trade winds making it possible to fish for large fish in very calm
ocean waters. The water depth offshore of Kona drops dramatically.
At just a few miles offshore you are at 6000 ft. deep and it keeps
getting deeper after that.
Although Kona and the
Kohala Coast is famous for big fish like large Blue Marlin, other
species of fish can also be caught. Ahi (Yellowfin
Tuna),
Mahi Mahi (Dorado),
Ono (Wahoo),
Aku (Skipjack Tuna),
Kahala (Amberjack)
and other species are plentiful here. Blue Marlin run all year.
There are also 6 different types of Billfish.
Trolling lures is probably the most popular style
in Kona, but live bait and bottom fishing are also options. There
are many large fish that can be caught off the ledges and bottom
such as amberjack or shark. You may only be interested in trolling
for the large blue Marlin or you may be happy to focus on small
skipjack tuna or bottom fish near the ledges.
